Glenn Malycha, affectionately known as Glenn the Wine Guy, has provided a vibrant force in South Australia’s hospitality and wine industry since 1986. From fine dining and cocktail bars to cellar doors, food and wine events and nightclubs, his career spans iconic venues including Hyatt Regency Adelaide, Heaven Nightclub, Stonyfell Winery, Hotel Adelaide International, Running Man Restaurant, Rock Lobster, Boltz in Rundle Street, Tanunda Hotel, The South Australian Company Store, and Vintners Restaurant Barossa.
With deep roots in Adelaide and the Barossa, Glenn’s expertise covers fine dining management, cocktail bar management, gaming management and TAB operations, outdoor events, public speaking, and TAFE instruction in basic wine knowledge, full bar service, Cocktail creation and costing, Responsible Service of Alcohol modules, and hospitality excellence. WSET Level III Certified.
A passionate wine communicator, Glenn has contributed tasting notes, interviews, and judging insights to Wine in China Magazine, championing South Australian winemakers on the global stage and even popped up occasionally on local Radio 5MU. His leadership in fine wine sales and brand development has taken him across Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, China, Singapore, the UK, and Switzerland, promoting Australian fine wines.
Glenn’s international impact includes a government-invited role in Northern China, where he oversaw five cellar door operations and staff training for brands like Gemtree and Bird in Hand wines. He was a featured speaker at the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel Shenyang for the Australia-China Business Association’s 40th anniversary and has been honoured by Bristol Who’s Who and Awarded by Rotary International for dedication to service excellence.
Glenn has experience helping in some vineyards with growers at vintage and winery experience alongside wine makers from intake to crushing, and fermenting to bench marking and trialling of styles prior to bottling. This extends to working on projects with graphic designers, label printers, carton and bottle manufacturers, visiting bottling and packaging halls to understand quality techniques also liaising with local and export storage and freight companies, in order to understand the entire voyage undertaken from the vineyard into your favourite glass.
As Creator and Director of Winepro Australia, Glenn continues to blend education, storytelling, and global strategy, supporting boutique and family-owned wine labels to make their mark.

I took this photograph in Yingkou Liaoning Province, in 2011, so technically it was my idea to introduce Aussie Rules Football to China way back then.

It kept me up at night.. I mean, how long is a piece of vine?
Where do I start?
It was a loaded question that ultimately created even more questions relating to so many different aspects of just one Australian Shiraz Grape variety, seen on the international stage, as opposed to being a local hero.
